5. Icograda Design Week in Madrid, Spain
Straight to Business 2010 will focus on how design helps build new models which are profitable, sustainable and have a commitment towards environment and society. 6. Cities x Design is a 35-city transmedia research trip across the United States that is recorded online and will later be released in film, exhibition and book form. Through visits, observations, and interviews, Cities x Design will examine, during this time of economic instability and questioning about America’s future, the connections between cities, local culture and people in the United States. It will highlight how investing in design can change perceptions, boost economies and create unique places. 11. Asia in LA: Global Cities in Asia, Asia in the Global City
The first Asia in LA program brings together leading architects, designers, and UCLA faculty working in and on Asia. Asia in LA is a community series that celebrates the ties between Asia and Los Angeles and highlights the work of UCLA faculty, students, and leaders in the local community that enriches our understanding of the people, cultures, and history of Asia. The afternoon will feature discussions by architects, urban designers, and UCLA faculty who will explore the design and use of space and the construction and preservation of identity, both in the Asian cities that are a part of today’s networks of people, goods, and ideas, and in the Asian spaces that are a vital part of the fabric of a global city such as Los Angeles.

12. The New Americans Museum will be exhibiting Through My Father's Eyes: The Filipino American Photographs of Ricardo Ocreto Alvarado (1914-1976) from September 20th to November 2nd, 2008. This vibrant photo-exhibit, co-chaired by Bennett Peji, celebrates Filipino-American community life in postwar America. It is the first significant exhibition about Filipinos in America to be associated with any of the Smithsonian's museums. http://www.museumvip.com
